Throughout the year we bathe the Palace Theatre in light; she is indeed a pretty picture glowing over Palace Avenue Gardens. Pink for Valentines, purple for the Jubilee, red and green for Christmas and so on. On Thursday 8 September 2022 there was no colour that could describe how we all felt and so the lights were dimmed. Queen Elizabeth II was an enormous supporter of the arts and theatre in particular. Her steadying influence across the realm over seven decades cannot be over-estimated.

Long Live King Charles III.

Thank you to our Technical Manager Clive Simmons for capturing this beautiful moon-lit scene.

The Theatre will remain open during the period of national mourning but the night-time illuminations will remain dimmed. The Theatre will close for the day of the State Funeral on Monday 19th September. No live performances are affected.
