SEE IT SAFELY – COVID As we re-open, the processes for safely managing your visit to the theatre are in line with the latest Government guidance. Below are some of the questions you may have about your visit. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions not covered here.
Can I book tickets at the theatre? Our box office is open for phone bookings now, 1100-1500 Monday to Friday, 01803 665800, and from 17 May it will be open to visitors. You can buy tickets online at any time. You can also buy tickets on the night, if available, but please allow time as we will need to take your contact information.
How many tickets can I purchase? You can book up to 6 tickets together. If social distancing rules change we may have to reallocate seating on the night.
Do I need to collect my ticket from the Box Office? There is no need to collect your tickets. You can print out tickets at home or you can display your ticket on a digital device (e.g. smartphone). We will also have a guest list at the door for every performance.
Do I have to wear a face covering? Yes. You will need to wear a face covering at all times within the theatre, except when eating or drinking. Our staff will also be wearing face coverings.
Will I need to check in on arrival? The Government requires that every individual visitor aged over 16 checks in either by scanning the NHS QR code in the foyer, or by providing contact details to the Front of House team.
What time will I be able to take my seat in the auditorium? The auditorium will open 45 minutes before the performance and we will try to get everyone to their seats as quickly as we can. It will not be possible to gather and meet in the foyer so please arrange to meet others in your party outside the theatre.
Will the bar be open? The bar will be open for takeaway drinks so you can enjoy these at your seats. Staff will guide you through the one-way system. Card payment is preferred.
Will I be able to purchase a programme? Yes. For those performances with programmes, you can order your programme in advance you’re your tickets and it will be at your seat on arrival. Alternatively you may purchase a copy from the bar.
How will the auditorium be socially distanced? To ensure our audiences are safe and socially distanced, we have reduced our capacity to 190 seats, around half of our usual size. All audience bubbles will be seated at least 1m apart in all directions from each other.
Can I move seats? No. It is essential that you sit in your reserved seat so that we do not compromise our socially distanced seating plan. Please call us ahead of the performance if you have specific needs.
Will I be able to re-enter the auditorium during the performance? We do advise you to stay at your seat at all times to help with social distancing. If you do need to leave the auditorium our Front of House team will assist to minimise disturbing other audience members. Our toilets are open and will be cleaned regularly – please respect social distancing if there are queues.
How often is the theatre cleaned? All areas of theatre will be cleaned thoroughly before every performance.
How does your air ventilation work? Our new air conditioning system cools the fresh air brought in and extracted by a ventilation system.
What happens if a performance is postponed or cancelled? Our Box Office team will contact you directly, and you will have the choice of a full refund, vouchers or changing your tickets to a different performance.
Will there still be spaces available for people in wheelchairs? Yes. Wheelchair spaces are available at every performance. Please contact our Box Office to book on 01803 665800.
What happens if I have to isolate and can no longer attend? Please do not visit us if anyone in your household or bubble is displaying symptoms of COVID-19. Please contact our Box Office team and we will attempt to change the dates of your tickets or issue a voucher.
Will I be contacted if someone at the theatre tests positive for Coronavirus after my performance? If one of your fellow audience members tests positive you may receive a call from NHS Test & Trace advising you to isolate.
Below are some of the general questions that we’re regularly asked to help make your visit to the theatre as easy and as enjoyable as possible.
How do I COLLECT MY TICKETS?
If you have purchased your theatre tickets online, you will have received a confirmation email from Ticketsource with the seat information included. You can either print out the tickets at home or show the email confirmation on your smart phone to the theatre staff on the door when you enter the auditorium. There is no need to exchange for other tickets at the theatre.
If you have booked your theatre tickets by phone, you can request to collect your printed tickets from the theatre box office before or on the day of the show.
Is there PARKING nearby?
YES, street parking is available in Palace Avenue. Parking charges apply during the daytime (except on Sundays). After 6pm on Mondays through to Saturdays these spaces are FREE, as well as all day on Sundays throughout the year. There are disabled parking spaces in Palace Avenue, directly opposite the theatre entrance.
The nearest pay and display car park is in Crown & Anchor Way, just a one minute walk from the theatre.
Are CONCESSIONS available on all show tickets?
Our aim is to keep theatre ticket prices as affordable as possible, and wherever possible we offer concessions, subject to individual agreements with visiting performers, artists and theatre companies for the following:
- Students/Young People (proof of age or status may be requested)
- Seniors (over 60 years)
- Friends of the Palace Theatre
- Disabled and Carers (proof of status may be requested)
Can I bring my BABY/CHILD along and do I need to buy a ticket for them?
YES, you can bring children aged 2 years and under along to our family-friendly shows. You don’t need to buy a ticket for children aged 2 years and under providing they can be seated on a parent or guardian’s lap. Naturally we do not want crying babies to spoil the performance for others in the audience so please consider this when you book.

Does the theatre cater for BIRTHDAYS AND SPECIAL OCCASIONS?
YES, we can offer a range of bespoke packages for theatre visitors including balloons, greeting cards and glasses or bottles of bubbly. We always aim to please and will do our very best to accommodate all requests.

Are DOGS allowed in the theatre?
Only assistance dogs with their owners are permitted in the theatre auditorium during a show.
We have recently introduced an onsite dog-sitting service so that theatre lovers with dogs can enjoy our shows. Please contact the box office for further details about charges.
Can I buy THEATRE VOUCHERS at the Palace Theatre?
YES, we sell theatre vouchers that are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. These are available in multiples of £5, £10, £20 and £50. Vouchers can not be redeemed for cash nor change be provided but credit can be used towards other ticket purchases. We also sell and accept THEATRE TOKENS.
How can I be added to your MAILING LIST?
We don’t post out our what’s on programme but do please subscribe to our email list and we will keep you up to date about future shows. Our emailing list is held securely and is fully compliant with GDPR regulations. We will never pass your details to any other organisation and you can unsubscribe at any time – sign up here. Our printed programme is always available at the theatre and at our ticket agents.
Does the theatre donate theatre tickets as RAFFLE PRIZES for local charities?
We are frequently asked to donate tickets for local good causes. As a Community Interest Company we are usually able to support such requests from theatre visitors or local organisations who regularly support our shows. Please send your requests via email to [email protected]
Are there any WORK EXPERIENCE opportunities?
We receive lots of enquiries each year from young people wanting to join our team and gain work experience. We are only able to consider requests from students aged 14 years and above. Please send a written application to [email protected] and if possible, include your school or college tutor in the process.
Are there any VOLUNTEERING or JOB opportunities?
The Friends of the Palace Theatre (FOPT) provide a valuable volunteer service to support our year-round programme of shows and events. If you are interested in volunteering and becoming a FOPT member, please contact the FOPT Secretary.
From time to time we do have paid vacancies for casual staff to join the Palace Theatre team. We normally post these opportunities on to our Facebook page. Please send a letter of application and a CV via email to [email protected] if you are interested.
I'm no longer able to come to a show can I get a REFUND?
Unfortunately tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded. However, we do try to accommodate you within our current programme.
If you have booked tickets for a performance which is on for more than one night we may be able to transfer your ticket to a different night, subject to availability.
