The Stage to develop, inspire, and support
When the theatre is not hosting performances, it remains a vibrant hub of creative activity, bustling with a variety of workshops, dance and exercise classes, rehearsals, and youth theatre programs. This dynamic environment fosters creativity and engagement within the community.
The Palace Theatre serves the community in many ways; it is not only a platform for performances but also a venue for showcasing the rich heritage and culture of Torbay. This includes hosting talks, presentations, and meetings that engage the public, such as our regular ‘Audience At’ events and interest groups, like the monthly Civic Society meeting. These activities ensure that the theatre is a focal point for cultural exchange and community involvement, enriching the lives of those who participate and attend.
We are excited to harness our collective energy to launch a new initiative called The Stage to develop, inspire, and support, designed to further foster community engagement and creativity.
This project aims to bring together individuals, our community and partners to collaboratively develop and share their unique stories, reflecting the rich tapestry of their lives and the broader narrative of Torbay. By creating a programme of local people’s stories, memories, and aspirations, we aim to celebrate the cultural heritage of the area and envision its potential for the future under the theme ‘Bring your dreams, story or memory to life.’
Our approach will maximise our knowledge, space, and the expertise of both amateur and voluntary contributors, providing learning opportunities, support, and direction throughout the creative process.
STORIES AND ASPIRATIONS
We are ready to offer our full support to anyone in the community who wishes to share their story, memory, or creative idea, whether it be a performance, a piece of music, or any new artistic endeavour.
We are ready to be a catalyst for those groups and individuals who which to share their creative concepts, dreams, or aspirations, and we will assist in developing them into a tangible learning and performance experience.
Whether you think you want to form a new band, recount memories of growing up in Paignton, create a series of stories with a local group, or produce a comedy (or drama) inspired by your life in the area, we are here to help. If you’re interested in learning how to write, perform, or innovate, we encourage you to share your ideas with us.
Our goal is to provide the support, expertise and space necessary to bring your creative visions to life.
SUPPORT AND DIRECTION
We are committed to collaborating with experts and individuals who have valuable experiences in specific areas to provide tailored support and direction for those who bring their creative ideas to us.
Our in-house team will work closely with these groups and individuals, utilising our facilities to streamline the creative process and foster an environment where creativity can flourish. By offering guidance and resources, we aim to empower community members to develop their ideas into tangible projects, ensuring that their artistic visions are realised effectively and efficiently.
PERFORMANCES AND SHOWCASES
Our stage, Stage Left, and the Prop Store are designed to be dynamic spaces that accommodate a wide range of creative activities.
These facilities will be available for workshops led by experts, offering community members the chance to learn new skills and gain insights from those with extensive knowledge in their fields.
In addition to workshops, we will organise creative gatherings where artists and community members can come together to share ideas, inspiration, and collaborate on projects. The spaces will also be accessible for rehearsals, providing participants with the opportunity to prepare for live performances or showcases in a supportive environment.
Ultimately, our goal is to use these versatile spaces to not only nurture artistic projects but also to strengthen community ties through various engaging events and activities.
