DESCRIPTION:There is so much to yell about. There’s the modern world in which you spend so long trying to work out iTunes\, that it’s easier to form a band and learn the songs.  \nBut there’s also so much to be delighted with. Like the fact that everyone in Northampton knows the sign that says ‘Family Planning Advice – Use Rear Entrance’. \nThen there’s the crazy story of being brought up in a working-class street in Kent\, to discover my natural father was a millionaire backgammon player who was best mates with Lord Lucan. \nI’ve come to terms with the fact I’m a heap of contradictions\, trying to stay young while being unable to log into any website. Trying to be respectable and mainstream (in this show there will even be a piano and a bit of singing)\, until I can’t help breaking into a steaming rant that would get me locked away somewhere secure if it wasn’t on a stage. \nAnd this is stand-up\, so whatever has happened in the room\, in the town or in the world that day will almost certainly be in the show. \nSo\, I’ll try to keep it to a decent length\, but it could so easily end up as an evening and part of the next day.   \nThe critically acclaimed Mark Steel’s in Town was voted the 6th best radio comedy ever and Mark is a regular on the BBC’s Have I Got News For You\, QI and BBCR4’s News Quiz. He has been named newspaper columnist of the year and is author of the award-winning audiobook Who Do I Think I Am. \n \nSTRICTLY 14+ Likely to be swearing and adult content.  Children younger than 14 will not be admitted even if accompanied with an adult.

Now is the chance to learn the inside tips and tricks to getting published.In this 2 ½ hour workshop\, Award-winning women’s fiction author Helga Jensen will discuss what it takes to get published. From the writing techniques you need for that first draft to an impressive opening line and querying publishers and agents\, Helga will share her inside knowledge and experience. \nHelga Jensen is an award-winning British/Danish Amazon best-selling author and journalist. Her debut novel was a winning entry in the 2017 Montegrappa First Fiction competition at Dubai’s Emirates Literary Festival. Her debut was also a contender for the coveted 2021 Joan Hessayon Award for new writers. Helga’s second romantic comedy\, A Scandinavian Summer\, went straight to number one on the Amazon Kindle charts for Danish travel on its publication day. Helga holds a BA Hons in English Literature and Creative Writing\, along with a Creative Writing MA from Bath Spa University. Gilbert and performed by The Gilbert and Sullivan Society (Torbay).  The programme will include the hilarious One Act Opera “Trial by Jury” and will be directed by Mr. Bob Carter. \nSPRING IS IN THE AIR! \nThis is a light hearted concert of popular and varied songs and choruses taken from many of the thirteen light operas written and devised by Arthur Sullivan and W.S. Gilbert. It will be performed by the chorus and soloists of The Gilbert & Sullivan Society (Torbay)  – a rare opportunity to hear G&S music in Torbay.. \nIt includes the hilarious One Act Opera “Trial by Jury” and will be directed by Mr. Bob Carter with Jenny Abbott\, Neal Carter-Lewis and Tom Mills among the soloists\, all accompanied on the grand piano by Miss Sheena Strachan. \nThe G & S Society (Torbay) celebrates its Golden Anniversary this year and is proud to bring G & S back to Paignton where it was performed for many years\, dating right back to the first production of the famous “Pirates of Penzance” in 1879.  The glorious music and amusing lyrics have stood the test of time very well and still provide wonderful entertainment to many people throughout the world. It is hoped everyone will have a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining experience on this Spring afternoon and will seek out more G & S in the bay in the years to come.
