DESCRIPTION:Join Moonstone Theatre Company to help them solve a mystery\, whilst enjoying a fabulous afternoon tea experience\, held in Stage Left. \nDeath is no Joke. \nTouring Comedian Max Wilton was riding high. Appearances on Live at the Apollo\, Eight out of Ten Cats and\, before it was scrapped\, Mock the Week\, had ensured that his tours sold out. \nHe was appearing at the Palace Theatre in Paignton for two nights and both nights were completely full.  However\, as the first night in Paignton was about to start\, a runner doing the 15-minute call to the stage\, found Max Wilton dead in his dressing room. \nThe emergency services were called\, and it soon became clear that his death had not been a natural one. Police\, in the form of Detective Chief Inspector Charles Appleby\, arrived and began an investigation. He called on those present at the theatre to help him with his enquiries and quickly identified that he had four key suspects. \nAll the clues will be there to catch the killer\, but will they be successfully deduced. Detective Chief Inspector Appleby\, with the help of the other guests present\, is determined to get the truth before the afternoon is over. \nTickets include a delicious afternoon tea served in Stage Left.\nSaturday 15 February\, 2pm to 4pm \nVegan and Vegetarian options available. Sadly we cannot offer gluten free afternoon teas. \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Paignton Heritage Society will take you on a galloping romp through the history of Paignton\, from the Devonian Period.  Four hundred million years ago\, a time now called the Devonian Period\, Torbay was south of the equator. The world was still cooling down and the continents as we know them were still unrecognisable. \nOn to the time of the Neolithic tomb at Broadsands – the Celtic Dumnonii tribe – whoosh there goes the Anglo Saxon settlement of Paega – medieval life – the Reformation – Napoleonic wars – Brunel’s railway – the Singer family and the Victorians fly past your head. Duck or you’ll be hit by Paignton in two World Wars – Peace\, and we’re slowing down a little – ending with a gentle trot up to the Millennium. \nPaignton Heritage Society hope you can join them on this insight into the book they have published on the history of Paignton.  The book has been produced as a teaching resource for Key Stage 2 Paignton primary school children\, and will be gifted to every primary school in the town. With their illustrated talk\, they mean to send you home buzzing with the history of ‘Paignton – Our Town’. \nMonthly talks with interesting folk on fabulous subjects. SUMMARY:Sound of the Sirens
DESCRIPTION:Sound of the Sirens are a singer-songwriting duo based in Exeter\, Devon comprising of Abbe Martin & Hannah Wood. Honing their craft over the past decade\, Martin & Wood have cemented themselves as firm favourites as “one of the UK’s finest folk acts” not only on the Westcountry scene\, but nationally\, and internationally too. Their status\, and fast-growing fan-base is not only testament to the pair’s prowess as songwriters and musicians\, but as people too. \nMartin & Wood are two of the hardest working musicians on the scene and wear their hearts very much on their sleeves in terms of their songwriting. The pair glide gracefully through laments of past relationships\, and life experiences\, as well as highlighting the important topics of the day\, namely mental health awareness\, and homelessness. Without being pigeonholed into any stereotypical genre\, the instrumentation of the band is vast\, and varied. Martin (stage right) plays acoustic and high-strung (Nashville tuning) guitar\, mandolin\, and bass drum\, while partner in crime Wood (stage left) plays acoustic and electric guitar\, tambourine\, snare drum\, and the piano. \nThe pairs’ musical and vocal dexterity dovetail beautifully on the co-written songs\, which range from beautiful\, emotive ballads\, to up-beat\, foot stomping\, hands in the air\, sing-along anthems. The dynamic duo and their musical creations translate very well onto recorded media\, but it is in the live arena where the pair truly excel. There is a certain majesty about their live performances that simply cannot be put into words. It is this “je ne sais quoi” that keeps their loyal fans returning from far and wide to see these two perform. It is not just nearly two hours of high-quality live music you get for the entrance fee\, a Sound of the Sirens show is much more than that. The onstage chemistry\, camaraderie\, and banter is worth the ticket price alone.

The Wilberforce family home in the little Devon village of Willingham on the eastern slopes of Dartmoor was resplendent in its Christmas garb. Lights twinkled on the Christmas Tree in the drawing room and the presents\, carefully wrapped and labelled\, lay underneath waiting for eager hands to open them and find the treasures within. \nAbove the doorway between the hall and the drawing room mistletoe had been hung to catch the unwary. \nSuch was the situation that fateful Christmas Eve but when the family came down on Christmas Morning a very different sight met their horrified gaze. Sir Alastair Wilberforce\, a retired architect\, was lying beneath the mistletoe with a dagger in his chest. \nShocked\, the butler\, Henry Jarvis\, called the police and Chief Inspector Charles Appleby arrived to lead the investigation. \nWith no sign of a break in it must have been someone in the house or someone who had been let in by another member of the family but who and why?
