SUMMARY:Ashley Hutchings 80th Birthday Tour - with special guest Blair Dunlop
DESCRIPTION: “Ashley Hutchings is the single most important figure in English folk-rock” (Bob Dylan). \nHe formed Fairport Convention in 1967 and the group went on to invent British folk-rock. He went on to form Steeleye Span who had enormous success in pop as well as folk charts. Ashley then formed the many Albion Bands. By 1977 the band became the house band at the National Theatre with Ashley as music director. They provided music and dance for four years in many enormously popular plays. In more recent times The Guvnor\, as he became known as\, has concentrated on music and spoken word performances and albums. He was awarded the MBE 6 years ago. \nHis son Blair Dunlop\, now in his early 30s\, is a “globetrotting BBC folk awards winning singer-songwriter and recently determinedly taken the traditions of folk in his own direction” (The Independent). In March father and son start a rare tour together. They will present a unique performance of their terrific songs\, remarkable stories spanning many years taking in characters as broad ranging as Jimi Hendrix\, Martin Carthy\, our current King Charles\, and Bob Dylan. The latter is a good friend of Ashley and great admirer of Blair’s music. DESCRIPTION:Prue Leith’s career has included her own restaurants\, catering and cookery school businesses; she’s been a board director of companies such as British Rail\, Halifax\, Safeway\, Whitbread\, Woolworths\, and Belmond (ex-Orient Express) Hotels. \nShe has published eight novels\, a memoir\, I’ll Do Anything Once (formerly\, Relish) and 14 cookbooks. Her latest cookbook\, Bliss on Toast\, was published by Bloomsbury in 2022. \nPrue is probably best known as a judge on the Great British Bake Off\, but last year she also presented a gardening programme\, Prue’s Great Garden Plot with her husband\, and this year will judge the American equivalent of Bake Off. She has also been a judge on The Great British Menu and My Kitchen Rules. \nPrue has had a deep involvement with education and the arts: she chaired the first of the companies charged with turning round failing state schools\, and was Chair of the School Food Trust\, responsible for the improvement of school food and food education. She started and led the campaign for contemporary sculpture to be exhibited on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. She has been active in many charities and is the Chancellor of Queen Margaret University\, Edinburgh. Rebeca Ortega has performed and taught masterclasses across Europe and in countries like China\, India\, Bhutan\, Ethiopia\, Gabon\, Azerbayan\, Trinidad and Tobago and others around the world. \nRebeca continues to explore new artistic horizons\, participating in projects that fuse flamenco with other forms of cultural expression\, such as her recent collaboration with the famous band “PATAX\,” where she blends Michael Jackson’s movements with flamenco\, or in the production “KALASETU” in London\, a show that combines traditional flamenco art with classical Indian music and dance. SUMMARY:Murder Mystery Afternoon tea: Death is no Joke! An afternoon of treats and intrigue
DESCRIPTION:Join Moonstone Theatre Company to help them solve a mystery\, whilst enjoying a fabulous afternoon tea experience\, held in Stage Left. \nDeath is no Joke. \nTouring Comedian Max Wilton was riding high. Appearances on Live at the Apollo\, Eight out of Ten Cats and\, before it was scrapped\, Mock the Week\, had ensured that his tours sold out. \nHe was appearing at the Palace Theatre in Paignton for two nights and both nights were completely full.  However\, as the first night in Paignton was about to start\, a runner doing the 15-minute call to the stage\, found Max Wilton dead in his dressing room. \nThe emergency services were called\, and it soon became clear that his death had not been a natural one. Police\, in the form of Detective Chief Inspector Charles Appleby\, arrived and began an investigation. He called on those present at the theatre to help him with his enquiries and quickly identified that he had four key suspects. \nAll the clues will be there to catch the killer\, but will they be successfully deduced. Detective Chief Inspector Appleby\, with the help of the other guests present\, is determined to get the truth before the afternoon is over. \nTickets include a delicious afternoon tea served in Stage Left.\nSaturday 15 February\, 2pm to 4pm \nVegan and Vegetarian options available. Sadly we cannot offer gluten free afternoon teas. \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Paignton Heritage Society will take you on a galloping romp through the history of Paignton\, from the Devonian Period.  Four hundred million years ago\, a time now called the Devonian Period\, Torbay was south of the equator. The world was still cooling down and the continents as we know them were still unrecognisable. \nOn to the time of the Neolithic tomb at Broadsands – the Celtic Dumnonii tribe – whoosh there goes the Anglo Saxon settlement of Paega – medieval life – the Reformation – Napoleonic wars – Brunel’s railway – the Singer family and the Victorians fly past your head. Duck or you’ll be hit by Paignton in two World Wars – Peace\, and we’re slowing down a little – ending with a gentle trot up to the Millennium. \nPaignton Heritage Society hope you can join them on this insight into the book they have published on the history of Paignton.  The book has been produced as a teaching resource for Key Stage 2 Paignton primary school children\, and will be gifted to every primary school in the town. With their illustrated talk\, they mean to send you home buzzing with the history of ‘Paignton – Our Town’. \nMonthly talks with interesting folk on fabulous subjects.
