Sadly cancelled: Buttons – The one man family panto!

31st December 2020 @ 15:00 to 16:00

Tickets £11 – Tickets £20

We are so sorry to tell you that Buttons is sadly cancelled.  Tom Binns, our performer, advised us last night that his children had developed coughs and he needed to get the whole family tested; whilst Tom feels this is nothing more than a cough, and the test results will be negative, he is doing the right thing for himself, his family and us.  We all decided that it is kinder to you to cancel the performance now, rather than wait for a few more days and be forced to cancel at shorter notice if the results are either delayed or return a positive test.

We are so very sorry to have to advise you of this cancellation, but as we are sure you understand, we want to keep everyone safe, we don’t want to take any unnecessary risks and we want to make sure that we are able to communicate changes with you as soon as possible.

This is another blow to our lovely theatre, we were hoping to have a small celebration to see the end of 2020, and welcome 2021, with some of our wonderful audiences, now we will be raising our glasses from our own homes and keeping our fingers crossed for a better 2021.  We wish you the very best and look forward to seeing you in 2021.

Despite the difficulties facing theatre this year one man is single handedly trying to keep the magic of Panto alive.

Sheffield comedian Tom Binns aka Hospital DJ Ivan Brackenbury who earlier in the year converted his van into the worlds first the pop up mobile comedy club has now written and produced  ‘Buttons – the one-man pantomime’ (He will also play Buttons)

Ten minutes into what should have been Cinderella, Buttons realises he’s on his own as the rest of the cast have been furloughed. (He missed the memo cause hadn’t bothered to go to the rehearsals).  The star-studded cast from the cancelled panto (kids will know them from CBBC) make a surprise appearance on video call but Buttons is left to carry the show.

Turns out Buttons has got a bit complacent of late and has lost the magic of Panto but with the help of his Fairy God Mentor, played by Bernie Clifton, he rediscovers the magic just in time for a happy ending.

In a case of life imitating art, Bernie Clifton has been mentoring Tom in real life and has even allowed him to do the Panto routines he was hoping to do himself this Christmas.

“This is a dream come true for me” says Binns “or it would be if only my dreams were this amazing, weird and specific.”

Performances are 1 hour, and are at 1500, 1700 and 1900.  The 1900 performance includes a glass of fizz and canapes, to help you see the New Year in, a few hours early!
