On 26 Jan 2025, folk legend Ashley Hutchings ’The Guvnor’ turns 80 years old.
After founding the ground breaking folk/rock band Fairport Convention, Ashley went on to form Steeleye Span and subsequently the first of many Albion Bands. By 1977 the Albions became virtually the house band at the National Theatre for 4 years with Ashley as Music Director. The band provided music and acted in many plays including the much loved Lark Rise. In recent years “The Guvnor” has concentrated on song writing, spoken word and new shows – as well as releasing his 100th studio album.
To celebrate this momentous milestone, Ashley is undertaking a very limited tour and taking along his son Blair Dunlop, an established star in his own right, to present a night of songs and reminiscences of a remarkable life in folk music.
“Ashley Hutchings is the single most important figure in English Folk rock. Before that his group Fairport Convention recorded some of the best versions of my unreleased songs. Listen to the bass playing on Percy’s Song to hear how great he is” – Bob Dylan
“Reflective, traditional, and incredibly powerful … essential for any lovers of English folk” – House of Prog
“Superb musicianship and a voice that will give you shivers” – FATEA Magazine
