An Audience at the Palace – The Old Saltway

7th October 2021 @ 10:30 to 11:30

The Old Saltway

‘An Audience’ at the Palace daytime talk with local speaker, Colin Vosper on The Old Saltway, the route described by Deryck Seymour in his book on Torre Abbey.

The route has interesting historical stories and facts linked to various places along the way from Coombe Cellars to Totnes and is a mix of churchways /lychways, manor boundaries and old trading or pack-horse routes with very few roads. Colin’s talk will focus on the route used in the context of the salt trade from its supply from the salt marshes of the Teign estuary to the delivery of salt and no doubt other goods, to the ships preparing to leave for sea at Totnes or Dartmouth. There is a link to the 16th and 17th centuries, involved in the Newfoundland fishing industry.

Monthly talks with interesting folk on fabulous subjects!  A time to socialise, discuss and learn loads of fascinating new stuff. Price includes a cup of tea/coffee.

Thursday 7 October 10:30am | Tickets £5 F
